This July, St. Petersburg and Moscow hosted Geek Picnic, the popular science festival for lovers of science and cutting-edge technology. This year HSE University became an official partner of the event. Festival guests got to see the recent projects of HSE professors, students, and graduates as well as attend lectures by leading HSE experts.
‘Prototyping future cities’ graduates and fellows of the grant of the president of the Republic of Tatarstan addressed the authorities of Moscow and Tatarstan in Zaryadye park at the Moscow Urban Forum.

Anna Budnikova, alumni of the international Master’s programme ‘Prototyping future cities’ received the Outstanding Science Award at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) for her research ‘Mycokarst: New Generation of Self-healing Urban Materials Based on Fungal Spores’ conducted under Elena Mitrofanova leadership.

First-year students of the international Master’s programme ‘Prototyping future cities’ are going to Copenhagen for a research trip ‘Self-Sufficient Habitat’. From April 23 to 27, they will be exploring this eco-friendly capital and learning the best practices in sustainable city development.
What is the future of public spaces in cities? Which role will play public spaces in urban fabric and urban life in the future? How to create at a public space that will add value to urban life? On March 18 in Shukhov Lab Natalia Fishman, advisor to the president of the Republic of Tatarstan, and Vicente Guallart, academic supervisor of the master program ‘Prototyping future cities’, discussed the future of urban public spaces in cities and shared an experience of creating livable and valuable public spaces in cities in Russia and worldwide.
