The Graduate School of Urban Studies is launching an international peer-reviewed journal ‘Urban Studies in Russia’. We are currently preparing the first issue of the journal and we invite authors to submit work and cooperate with us. The journal will cover scientific articles dedicated to research into different processes on urban spatial structure, urban planning, and methods of urban studies.
On April 18, 2014 the well-known New York city activist Daniel Latorre delivered a lecture at the HSE Graduate School of Urban Studies. Latorre spoke about ‘Digital Placemaking & Moving to Place-based Governance’.
On September 6-7 2013, an exhibition of research projects from 2011-2013 called ‘The City’ took place in the ‘SahArt’ gallery. The first graduates of the Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning presented their master’s degree projects, the culmination of two years’ work.
In July 2013, The HSE's Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning hosted its first summer school on promoting urban activism. The school was attended by international experts, including the architects Stefan Retich, professor at the University of Bremen, Janine Walter from Berlin, and Lukasz Pancewicz from Gdansk. We spoke to the organiser of the summer school, Dmitry Savkin, Deputy Dean of the Higher School of Urban Studies and Planning.
Ksenia Mokrushina, graduate of the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, MA of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), told us about her experience of study, work and teaching in urban planning.
On October 24th Blair Ruble, Director of the Kennan Institute and Comparative Urban Studies Project (USA) gave a lecture at the HSE on the development of metropolitan governance around the world.
A Graduate School of Urban Studies and Planning has been launched at the HSE. The new department will be the first in Russia to train experts in urban spatial planning.
